Why are prices in Euros and not dollars?
It is no secret that the US dollar fluctuates considerably relative to certain other world currencies, particularly the Euro. That has created a problem with Seacam products because SeacamUSA pays for all imported products in Euros and most housings deliver in about 60 days from time of order. Therefore the price quoted to a customer is not necessarily the price we would quote based on the new landed price. Over the years we have tried various solutions to account for probable currency variability, including a Euro surcharge when currency trades above a certain benchmark. But, it finally occurred to us that we could work on much tighter margins if we didn’t have to factor in the uncertainty of currency exchange. This can result in better prices to our customers. Also, as a comfort, the historical reality is that the Euro has never fluctuated more than plus-or-minus 2% in the time between placing an order and receipt of Seacam product. As the dollar gets stronger against the Euro, the savings advantages are improved for Seacam clients in North America.
